Common questions

How do I start an ECU test or repair?

Call 01202 503 328 or use the booking page. Say whether the module is still in the vehicle or already removed, and keep the registration to hand.

What does bench testing cost?

Testing typically starts from £149. Repair or replacement is quoted once we know whether the board is recoverable.

Can you save me from a dealer replacement quote?

Often, when the fault is a known solder, driver or water-ingress issue. We will not pretend every module is repairable.

Do I post the ECU or do you collect locally?

Postal testing is normal. Dorset and Hampshire owners can also arrange a local handover. Pack the module so the boards cannot flex.

Will you remap a module that already fails communication?

No. Communication and power integrity come first. A performance file on a dying ECU is how people buy two jobs.

Do you clone data onto a used ECU?

When the protocol and immobiliser path allow it, yes. We say if a virgin module or dealer coding is the safer route.

Is this the same as a Stage 1 remap booking?

No. This FAQ is testing, repair and replacement. Remap bookings live on the Stage 1 hub and the model pages.

What should I send with a postal ECU?

The module, the registration, a photo of any water marks, and the fault description. Do not send the car keys unless we ask.

How long does a test take?

Simple communication tests are often quick. Board-level repair depends on parts. We update you before we go beyond the agreed test.

Do you cover PCM as well as ECU?

Yes. The ECU and PCM hubs split the language; the process is still test, then repair or replace.

Will a repaired ECU keep my original map?

We aim to preserve the file that was in the module when it arrived, including a stock backup if one is present and readable.

What if the ECU is beyond repair?

We quote a replacement path. You are not talked into a remap to “see if it helps”.
