How Much Does a Stage 1 Remap Cost?
At 24Tuning, Stage 1 ECU remapping starts from £249 for most cars and vans. That includes a full diagnostic health check, secure backup of your original factory ECU map, custom in-house calibration and our lifetime software warranty on the work we perform.
You secure your appointment with a £50 deposit; the balance is due on the day of service. Exact pricing can vary by vehicle - use our vehicle selector or contact us for a quote on your specific make, model and engine.

Will a Stage 1 Remap Fail My MOT?
UK MOT testing checks emissions, visible smoke, mechanical condition and safety-related items - it does not directly inspect whether your ECU software has been modified.
A correctly calibrated Stage 1 remap on a healthy, well-maintained vehicle should not in itself cause an MOT failure, provided emissions remain within legal limits. At 24Tuning we do not remove or bypass emissions equipment (DPF, EGR, AdBlue and so on) as part of Stage 1 tuning.
That said, if your vehicle already has underlying faults, worn components or emissions-related issues, those problems can still cause a fail - with or without a remap. We perform a diagnostic health check before every remap for exactly this reason.

Does a Stage 1 Remap Affect My Insurance?
Yes - you are required to declare any performance modification, including an ECU remap, to your insurer. Failing to disclose a remap could invalidate your policy if you need to make a claim.
How your insurer responds varies: some adjust your premium, some apply specific terms, and policies differ widely. We recommend contacting your insurer before booking to understand how a remap may affect your cover.
24Tuning does not advise customers to conceal modifications from insurers. Being upfront protects you and is the right approach long term.
Is a Stage 1 Remap Detectable?
An ECU remap changes your engine's calibration software. In some circumstances - for example, a main dealer diagnostic session with manufacturer-level tooling - it may be possible to identify that the ECU software is not the original factory file.
We do not claim remaps are "undetectable." That kind of messaging is misleading and can encourage people to avoid their legal obligations, particularly around insurance disclosure.
What we do provide: every customer receives a secure backup of their original factory map, which we can restore before a dealer visit or resale if you choose. Restoring the stock file does not remove your duty to declare the modification to your insurer while the remap is in use on the road.
Is It Actually Worth It?
For most daily drivers, a Stage 1 remap is a genuine, noticeable upgrade - stronger throttle response, smoother power delivery, and often improved real-world fuel economy when driven sensibly, all without any hardware changes. The process is fully reversible if your circumstances change.
Whether it's "worth it" for you depends on how much you'll use and enjoy the improvement, and on being upfront with your insurer about the modification. Many of our customers remap after their manufacturer warranty period has expired; others accept the warranty implications because the drivability gains matter more for their daily use.
